Lunisa was created as a response to what many families are looking for—but often struggle to find—a small, intentional summer camp in Minneapolis that supports the whole child.
Lunisa was founded by Minneapolis native, Rocky Lunisa Xóchihua. Rocky’s focus on how art intersects with social and emotional learning (SEL) is informed by her experience in both education and fine arts. As a former Hiawatha special education teacher with deep experience supporting diverse learners, Rocky believes that creativity can be the gateway to a deep sense of one’s capacity - true confidence. Rocky also held positions at Mia and has been a working artist. Rocky is currently teaching after school programming in Minneapolis and Edina Public Schools where her passion for inspiring creativity is truly infectious. Rocky is also a queer second generation Mexican-American who cares deeply about her community.
This background shapes our approach—grounded in patience, observation, and meeting each child where they are.
